Join Mariel Heather and Nicole Smolinski for a transformative beachside event, where the art of journaling meets the quest for inner harmony. Mariel will guide exploration through a spiritual lens, navigating the delicate balance between our masculine and feminine energies; Nicole will invite exploration through a psychological lens, utilizing symbolism to help us give language to the different parts of our psyche that can become imbalanced. Together, in this serene setting, we will use the powerful elements of water and fire to guide us toward a deeper connection with the earth, while celebrating that inner work can have various, powerful avenues of interpretation.
Nourish to Bloom: A Guided Journaling + Ceramics Hand-building Workshop
Nourish to Bloom:
A Guided Journaling + Ceramics Hand-building Workshop
Join ARTime BARRO and Nicole Smolinski for an experiential ceramics workshop combining inner reflective exercises and conscious conversation with clay work.
For plants, the spring season represents a time to plant new seeds and nurture the newer opportunities that were building up a foundation in the winter. Nicole Smolinski, mental health professional & author of Finding My Way Back: Poems on Coming Alive, Healing & Self-Discovery, believes we can learn from the earth's cycles and that this can symbolically be true for us, too. This session will incorporate hand-building, where you'll be taught how to create a dish from clay, with open-ended questions to provoke more profound thoughts surrounding spring's teachings. You may bring your own flowers and/or plants for the dish.
Through both easy-to-follow journal prompts and a guided group conversation, we'll get to explore the goals & dreams you have in mind for this year and how, much like water to both plant and clay, we can practice ways to nourish those goals & dreams in the ways we care for ourselves.
This session is open to anyone wanting to feel more connected to themselves and who wants to practice caring for mind and body together. As another symbolic touch to the session and a value for earth-conscious practices, the journal questions you're provided with are printed on seed paper so that you can keep your notes to reflect on later or plant them and watch them grow.

Comfort & Community Around The Holidays: Paint, Journal & Sunset Walk
Comfort & Community Around The Holidays
a community hour for those who may have mixed feelings about the holiday season
The holiday season can bring up a whole mix of feelings for people. You’re allowed to feel many things at once when it comes to seeing family, having the year come at an end, comparing your family gatherings to others on social media or to your own expectations, being non-intentionally separated or intentionally estranged from family, or experiencing a general seasonal funk around the winter.
It can be a fun and wonderful time, and it can also be difficult and painful and isolating.
We are here to take back the holiday season, and cultivate togetherness, honesty and connection. Even if it’s not what we originally expected it to look like.
We are creating a space where we get to find comfort, care for ourselves, and process and reflect about the complex feelings that can surround this time of year.
- -
This will be an open hour with options to journal, paint, read, listen to music, and share thoughts and feelings surrounding the holiday season with others who have difficult or complex feelings about this time of year.
Cozy snacks & drinks provided by Jedidiah Coffee - Thank you!

Here’s to coming together, finding community in our own ways, and being reminded that we are not alone.

About Your Host:
Nicole Smolinski is a writer, speaker & wellness event host who is trained as a mental health clinician in California. As she spent time with her therapy clients, she began dreaming up ways where the principles she’s guided people through in therapy could be brought outside of the therapy room and into our communities. Her wellness events were born out of a vision where well-being is accessible and connective for the everyday person. As someone who's consistently found art and creation to be cathartic, she enjoys exploring the intersection between psychology & creativity; while there is an extremely valuable place for therapy in our world, Nicole aims to forge a path where well-being is explored creatively, and conscious conversations are accessible, connective, and non-intimidating for the everyday person.

Help Support Maui's Rebuild: A Mini-Wellness Morning
Join us for a morning of various wellness offerings and hangouts over coffee while helping Maui rebuild after the "deadliest US wildfire in more than a century" left Lahaina destroyed and many of its residents without homes to return to.
According to NPR, "The wildfires that tore through western Maui last week have already earned the tragic distinction of being among the deadliest in modern U.S. history — and the death toll is only expected to climb as recovery efforts continue. Hawaii officials confirmed 101 fatalities as of Tuesday, and have warned that number is likely to keep rising."
I've organized a morning of wellness offerings so that members of our community can attend many of the classes they already enjoy paying for, but this time it will be directly supporting the Maui response initiative. In other words: you can enjoy all of the same things you like doing on a Saturday morning AND be helping a community rebuild from natural disaster at the same time.
20+ local businesses have generously offered their immense support through donating: their time and expertise to run wellness sessions, or products from their stores and restaurants to be part of the beautiful raffle basket people can enter to win. I am speechless and humbled by the support and how many of you responded so quickly wanting to participate. Every quick "yes" & "how can I help" matters. THANK YOU!

Vessels Workshop with ArTime BARRO: a guided journaling & handbuilding workshop
“TO BE A VESSEL” is an experiential ceramics workshop combining open-ended inner reflective exercises with directive clay work to help you explore what it means for something to be a “vessel,” and how this can apply literally & figuratively to the clay work we do in class, and perhaps to the ways you conceptualize moments outside of class.
You will:
• learn how to hand-build a torso with clay, led by the owner of Artime BARRO (you can keep the time you make once it’s fired & glazed)
• learn how to reflect on the meaning of being a vessel and how that interprets into your own life through guided journaling questions and conscious conversation, led by yours truly (journaling paper is printed on seed paper, so you can take home your notes to keep or plant them and watch them grow)

First brainstormed as the “Myth of Natural Talent” and inspired into broader terms, DEBUNKED aims to dismantle ideals, concepts, and stereotypes the system has advertised as ‘truth’. We’re busting everything and anything that you feel should have its expectations defied and redefined.
TEDxUCIrvine strives to produce concepts that lend to the inclusion of a wide topic array from various perspectives. That’s why we’ve left it vague. The idea is to eliminate any restrictions to the content presented, without obstructing the ultimate goal: to have talks with a purpose.
Whatever debunking means to you, we’re all for it.
Free Compassion Journaling Event
In honor of my friend, David’s, work and the welcoming space he created for the residents of Davis, I will be hosting a free guided journaling event taking us through prompts that will cultivate a deeper sense of compassion of self, others, and humanity as a whole. Of course, you do not have to have known David to attend this gathering; rather, let this be a free offering to the community as a whole that tips its hat towards someone who’s impacted my life personally. Open to anyone!
Details:
This is a free guided journaling event taking us through prompts that will cultivate a deeper sense of compassion of self, others, and humanity as a whole. We will spend ~45 minutes exploring the guided journaling prompts I have selected for us and end in reflective conversation with one another. Let this be a place where you reflect on compassion as a whole and how to apply it to your life, or where you try out “guided journaling” for the first time.
All writing and seating materials will be provided for you.
Bring a warm jacket and extra layers just in case it gets a little chilly.
Location: Salt Creek Beach Park, Dana Point.

David H. Breaux
1972-2023
A special project in honor of David H. Breaux, known for his years of dedication to sitting on the corner of 3rd and C in Davis, CA, asking passerby their definition of compassion.
David was a friend to the community of Davis, and a Stanford graduate. During my time at UC Davis, I spent many hours on this bench with David, exchanging worldviews and hearing his hope for the world.

This is a completely free event and I encourage to receive it for free! If you do choose to add payment, all proceeds will be donated to Stanford's Center for Compassion and Altruism Research & Education in honor of David Breaux, the Compassion Guy. You can also support David’s personal compassion project by checking out his book, “COMPASSION Davis, CA: A Compilation of Concepts on Compassion.”
I am grieving with the Davis community, and my deepest thoughts are with the loved ones of David, Karim and Kimberly.

SPRING
A time to plant new seeds and nurture the newer opportunities that were building up foundation in the winter.
As nights grow shorter, and temperatures rise, plants can now receive the conditions they need to start growing. The roots that were continuing to develop in winter now have more strength to support and encourage this period of growth.
“Spring is for hope,
for slow growth
and rising up.”

Nourish to Bloom: A Guided Journaling + Hand-building Workshop
Join ARTime BARRO and Nicole Smolinski for an experiential ceramics workshop combining inner reflective exercises and conscious conversation with clay work to help you explore the symbolism of 'spring' in your life & how to nourish the goals & dreams you've planted for 2023.
About Workshop:
For plants, the spring season represents a time to plant new seeds and nurture the newer opportunities that were building up foundation in the winter. Nicole Smolinski, mental health professional & author of Finding My Way Back: Poems on Coming Alive, Healing & Self-Discovery, believes we can learn from the earth's cycles and that this can symbolically be true for us, too. This session will incorporate hand-building, where you'll be taught how to create a watering can from clay, with open-ended questions to provoke more profound thoughts surrounding spring's teachings.
As another symbolic touch to the session, and a value for earth-conscious practices, the journal questions you're provided with are printed on seed paper so that you can keep your notes to reflect on later or plant them and watch them grow. Better yet - you can water them with the watering can we created together in class!

WINTER
A time to reset and turn inwards.
As nights grow longer, and temperatures decrease, plants often go dormant and decelerate the speed of their processes to conserve energy. This conservation of energy allows for roots to continue developing as plants rest until spring. Though there is no growth to be seen above soil, dormancy is a plant’s way of flourishing long-term.
“Winter often looks barren because the flowers don’t grow, but I’ve learned winter is anything but barren— seedlings wait to sprout underground when the time comes and the environment is ready. I believe winter is our teacher because all the outward, beautiful stuff falls away for awhile and we’re left with only our core. Winter isn’t showy like spring, but it is wise and humble. Of course, it’s way more fun to be blooming and radiant, but spring doesn’t come without a winter of strengthening our roots. It’s my honor to be tested, to be stripped, because my roots are revealed and it’s only then that I can realign myself in better soil. I thank the harsh winter for what it’s taught me, and I wait expectantly for spring to come.”
